Modern oil storage tanks come in all shapes and sizes, made from plastic or steel. To minimise the risk an oil spill, some installations must have secondary containment using an integrally bunded tank or constructing a bund around a tank. The bund must be capable of holding at least 110% of the tank's contents. Fire is unlikely to be started by a domestic oil storage tank and its contents. But tanks should still be sited at least 1.8m away from non-fire rated eaves of a building. Oil storage tank installations need to comply with regional Building Regulations. In England & Wales, OFTEC Registered Technicians can self certify their own work, but if you choose to use someone who isn't registered with a Competent Person scheme like OFTEC, then you will need to obtain a Building Control Notice and arrange for an inspection. Similar rules apply in Scotland where you may need to apply for a warrant to install an oil tank.
Whether you're looking to install a new LPG boiler or upgrade your existing heating system from bottled gas, there are a range of convenient LPG storage options to suit you with a choice of of above or below ground tanks. Using moling technology allows gas engineers to lay long pipe runs without any digging or mess. LPG companies have dedicated teams to take care of every aspect of your new boiler and tank installation, including digging the trench for the tank or laying the concrete base, they will also install all pipework connecting the tank to the boiler, complete the installation then check everything is running smoothly. Calor even offer their revolutionary "Think Tank" system, an innovative telemetry system which enables your LPG tank to let Calor know how much gas you currently have and when you will need a gas delivery, ensuring that you never run out!
A transmitter sends a signal to Calor's central computer and informs it of your current gas level. When your gas is running low, your local Calor Depot is immediately alerted and a delivery is scheduled. The Think Tank uses innovative GSM technology, so no landline is required. This technology can be sued with an underground tank and Calor funds the upfront cost of the telemetry units, recovering the cost through a small standing charge. Think Tank customers can still call to order your gas if they prefer, so if the telemetry system ever fails, you can still receive deliveries as normal.
