John and Daniel were very professional from the minute they visited my property to view/provide quotation to carry out some devegetation/timber fencing works and block paving ( including drainage works). . They started and completed the project on time and to a very high standard. They came well equipped with the necessary plant/materials and labour force ( very impressed with Anton and all the other members of the team). I cannot stress how happy I am with the quality of the works carried out and the pleasant experience that I had with this company. As a rule I do not generally give out reviews, but felt compelled to do so on this occasion. I look forward to working with JD Doran in the very near future as I am planning a side extension.

We wanted the work to be done soon and had a fast response from this company. What was promised sounded good, reviews were decent, and John seemed friendly so we proceeded with them but ultimately feel a bit disappointed by the outcome. Tl;dr New patio is not level, awkward corners and steps with sleepers due to rushed planning, not great communication, leftover materials that we had to take to the tip ourselves, told us to finish the job ourselves. What was agreed: -the sloped lawn to be dug out into a flat patio extension (I emphasised on flat because I want to put play equipment there and I want it to be safe) -a piece of decking wood would be added to ensure a seamless finish between the decking and the new patio where the slope was previously -for the disparity between the remaining lawn and the new patio to be blended (when I questioned this during quotation I was told that the height difference would be minor and they would “sprinkle some dirt on it” to blend it) -nothing needed to be paid until completion of the work; that everything would be tidied and removed as part of the job. -their quote of £1500-£1600 would be significantly less than competitors and they would be able to achieve the job quickly What was delivered: -they started work the next day (unbeknown to us John was actually going on holiday the following week which might explain the rush) -asked us for half the cost upfront to pay for the materials -the new patio is not level (when they was questioned during the work we were told they would try to make it flatter with no result) -insisted on finishing the work in steady rain and therefore did not use power tools to cut the patio slabs into smaller pieces to merge into the decking edge. Instead they cemented huge sleeper blocks and put stones to fill the gap and told us afterwards that it was too difficult to cut the slabs into smaller pieces. (Everywhere in my neighbourhood the exact same slabs are used and there are many examples of smaller pieces being cut and used to fill awkwardly shaped gaps) -there was a huge dip between the remaining lawn and the new patio (as I had anticipated but was brushed off during consultation) and another wooden sleeper was cemented there to hold the lawn in place. (I agreed to the sleeper but there did not seem to be any other option since the work was so far along) -left the job as finished but there were bags of sand, numerous patio slabs, decking woods with nails stuck out (that cut our hands), and not cleaned driveway. -when we messaged to ask about the left over material, they told us that because it was raining too hard they couldn’t finish and properly clean but it would only be a 5 minute job and we should apply the sand in the slab joints ourselves. They have not returned to complete the job despite being asked multiple times and us telling them we were not comfortable with that. Ultimately, the patio is usable but not finished to the standard that we had anticipated when judging based on the reviews and example photos on the profile. The workers seemed decent hardworking people to be fair, just perhaps this specific job and circumstances didn't work out.

Job completed the. day after the estimate so prompt service,. The patio although not ideal is still still in a better condition than it was at the start. Cleared the site adequately on completion.

From start to finish the job was excellent, had a gravel driveway installed, kept me up to date with what was going on and was punctual and the job was of highest quality, very clean, didn't know they had been here each day and the job was even completed before the original timescale, thanks again.

We had our patio & adjoining area block-paved by JD Doran Ltd. The work was carried out efficiently by a team of four, plus competent owner John Doran. We had some work to do removing sand residue and loose rubble on the lawn, but otherwise can recommend this contractor.
