Fix Leak in Semi-Detached Property
The initial post for just a roofing repair triggered a quick response from Eurostar Roofing, and, after initial investigation quoted the most reasonable quote, however, on closer inspection (after giving them the ‘go-ahead), it was found that many of the batons under the tiles has rotted due to ingress of rain water, the tiles generally were brittle, and at least one complete side of the roof required replacement. A price was quoted for one side, but I asked for a quote for the entire roof replacement, as it seemed better economics. The quote was £11,500, and as work had already been done as a diagnostic, I decided to proceed with Eurostar and signed electronically for this amount. Ten people were put on this job, and the entire work was done within three days. However, on the last day I received a phone call to say that the rafters were in danger of rotting at the base, and that the roof required them to be replaced, at a further cost of £2,500 (£14,000 in total) ! I expressed concern that this hadn’t been included in the original quote, but was told they could still replace the roof, but wouldn’t be able to give me the ‘promised’ 20 year guarantee, and as they already had the old roof removed, I felt obliged to agree, and was told they would order the wood ! I was sat in my car at the time, about to drive the 17 miles or so to site, and when I got there they were already starting to tile the back side of the roof. I asked how they were going to insert the new rafters and was told that work had already been done ! I queried the fact this had been done within an hour of the phone call, and was told I was now ‘picking the job to pieces,’ and that ‘I’d agreed to that price,’ which, as a presumably valued customer, made me wonder if I’d chosen the correct roofing company, especially as I asked if the guarantee was ‘insurance backed,’ and was told it was, but that I would receive it when I’d paid ! I paid the same day as they completed the work, but have not yet received a copy of their guarantee, and all has gone silent, with no communication since.
