I debated about whether I should leave a review, but now having been approached by multiple tradespeople driving past my house, commenting on the poor state of our "new" roof, I feel I would have benefitted from knowing what I know now when I hired this company, since there were so many positive reviews. I was initially impressed with how quickly and efficiently Sid was able to patch up some leaky spots in our very old roof. He was polite and friendly and got the work done quickly, so when he gave us a reasonable quote for a completely new roof, we took him up on it. Work started a week late and "starting first thing in the morning" usually meant between 10:30-11am. What was quoted as a 6 day job stretched out over 3 weeks - we only have a small bungalow! After the first few days, we noticed Sid would bring guys to the house and then leave for most of the day. Had lots of excuses: needed to pick up supplies, had to speak to someone, went to get other guys for help, etc. Whenever he would disappear, the guys did very little apart from eating and smoking and throwing their rubbish around our property. After the first weekend, he arrived back on Monday to ask if we had any leaks because the guys hadn't sealed up the roof properly. Our insulation was soaked. He admitted a few times that things had not been installed correctly and had to be stripped and redone, but always blamed the guys he brought with him, saying they were not actually roofers, but just general tradesmen he got to help. In hindsight, this should have been the point where we cancelled the works with him. At several other points during the 3 weeks, our roof was left open and vulnerable. Over the weekends, we could see daylight through multiple holes in the roof, just left open. One morning we woke at 4am to water pouring in through the ceiling in 4 different rooms. Two light fixtures were ruined, our ceilings were damaged and our bed was soaked. We spent the entire day with buckets around the house. He kept finding other issues and trying to quote us for them, but we just said no. He barely did the things that we hired him to do in the first place. After 2 weeks, the scaffolding company came and removed the scaffolding but they weren't done with the job, so they pitched ladders everywhere, including our neighbour's property which has created tension between us. They stood on their property, eating and smoking and listening to music, and climbed around on their roof as well and were asked not to. Again, Sid was not here during any of this to oversee the work. For an entire week, every single day he said "The work will be done tomorrow" and then would come back the next day and the next day. We cancelled all our plans for 2 weekends in a row because we felt we couldn't trust them or their work without one of us here at all times. A few days before they finished, Sid asked for final payment in cash, which we declined, saying we would pay when the work was done and the skip and rubbish was cleared. On the final day, the skip still hadn't been removed and he demanded payment. We felt we didn't have a choice and paid him, asking for the number for the skip company so they could remove it. He never gave us this. Immediately after the work was done, we noticed issues. The felt wasn't trimmed and hung over our gutters on a whole side of the roof, gutters were full of nails and bits of broken tile and cigarettes. The dry verge end caps were falling off the house - they hadn't even been secured to the roof at all. Food containers, cans, bottles of juice and cigarettes were all over our garden, front and back. We found razor blades and bits of broken tile EVERYWHERE, including a bucket of broken tiles in our loft that they had clearly dropped through insulation of the roof and rather than reaching down to get it, just tiled over it and left it there. We've now had multiple roofers out to look at it who have said the ridge caps and dry verges have not been installed properly, the actual tiles look terrible, are cracked or cut improperly and there are multiple places on the roof where they didn't install tiles at all. It is costing us thousands to get the work redone. It's a real shame because Sid is friendly and seemed like a genuine person. Maybe could have done a good job if he had actually been here to oversee the work or brought actual roofers to do it. Unfortunately, I am not able to recommend him or his work.
To be quite candid I was a little hesitant to engage Sidney because of the recent poor review but it was the only poor review and I was prepared to give him the benefit of doubt. Sidney's quote for the job was quite competitive against others and I liked his manner. So Sidney got the job and I wasn't disappointed. His communication was good, he was punctual and above all he and his 'mate' were careful, clean and considerate. The roof clean was effective and well done. Suffice it to say I am looking for further work to be carried out and have asked for quotes. So in conclusion, based on the job done I am totally satisfied with the standard of work and quite happy to give my 5* review and recommendation to those considering engaging Allstar Roofing for work.
Sidney was quick to quote and do the job. They communicated with me regularly and kept me posted on issues and progress. Excellent service and would definitely recommend.
Friendly and efficient service for completing a flat roof repair.
I will start by saying Sidney was a nice guy and was always polite, and the reviews on here were all positive so didnt think twice about hiring Allstar. However that's about as positive as this review is going get. I can't comment on Allstars roofing practices but their patio laying skills/practices leave a lot to be desire. Short version: Avoid. Corners cut, zero professionalism, compmete lack of respect for property and patio Installed to below minimum standards with an abominable finish. For details read on. I posted a job to have a little bit land cleared of brush, leveled and to have several iron fence posts removed. I was also requiring a 21m2 Indian sandstone patio with a monoblock border Installed. Sidney came out to quote the land clearing job and I decided after a chat to use him for the patio job also. What was quoted as a 4 day job dragged on for just over 2 weeks. You see, Sidney took on my job because he had a big job lined up but it got postponed. However a few days In to my job his big job was back on the books so my job was sidelined. The Allstar website and quote states "materials installed to the HIGHEST OF STANDARDS from our PROFESSIONAL team at Allstar. This couldn't be further from the truth and here's why. Land Job: Sidney hired a digger for a day to scrape away the brush, remove a couple tree stumps and what I assumed would be to remove the iron fence posts. He didn't remove the fence posts with the digger and when he went back to the remove them I witnessed his guys snapping them off at gound level. I told Sidney they need to be removed completely. He came back the next day to remove them and sent photos of them removed. I found after though that the ones his guys managed to snap off were just covered with dirt and not completely removed. I found them later whilst digging the land. Sandstone Patio: When Sidney came to quote the job he told me that sandstone needed to be primed before laying the slabs, in the Allstar official job quote sent via email he included that all slabs will be primed before laying. Day 1 all slabs put down that day were not primed. Corners were being cut right out the box. I wasn't home but was able to check progress and review work on cctv. All day 1 slabs had to be lifted and start again! Sydney swears that it wasn't intentional. Intentional or not corners were cut Day 2 the monoblock went down along with some new slabs. I came home to find some very poorly cut slabs and very wonky monoblock. The edges of the monoblock were left looking like burst sofas! As in the cement that was sqeezed out when tapping the blocks into place had not been cleared up and left in a state! when challenged on this Sidney told me that's normal, it will all be cut away with a saw at the end and I'll be happy with the finish. To make matters worse he managed to cut the stems of my Jasmine plant in the process! The Monoblock had to be re laid and wonky slabs lifted and replaced. From here worked slowed down dramatically. A couple hours here a few hours there. Slabs going down but having to be lifted again for one reason or another(not adhered down correctly or cut wrong) 2 weeks later I have something that resembles a patio. But as stated above minimum standards have not been met. Not all slabs are level with each other creating trip hazzards and there are low spots where water pools. There is plenty more I can say but im getting tired of ranting and I think you get the just of it. As for professionalism there was none. All the workers that visited the property just disposed of their litter all around my garden and I found(and witnessed on cctv) cigarette butt's just disposed off without a care. Zero respect for my property. No attempt to minimise mess. Alot of the concrete that had to be lifted to re lay slabs was just scraped on to my grass and wood bark path! No attempt to tidy it up. And finally everything is just covered in cement! My garden fence, my log cabin walls, my shed doors, my driveway and most importantly the patio itself. I had to use a drill and wire brush attachment to clean off all the cement that had been left to dry on the sandstone slabs and monoblock. All in all an absolute mess and disaster. Personally I would avoid hiring Allstar. Their low quotes reflect the low quality of work you recieve and I cant imagine I got the short staw and every other job they do is to a higher standard. This was the first time I've ever paid someone to do work being that I expected it would be to a higher standard than I could achieve myself but I've been left thoroughly disappointed.
Excellent. Will rehire.
Good guy, took his time, reasonable price, time will tell if it's successful but assured me any problems give him a ring.
A very good job. I'm very happy with the outcome of his workwork and I would recommend him.
Knowledgeable, polite, listened to what I wanted. Honest, and his recommendations were good. Sidney told me honestly what he thought did not need to be done yet, and what was more urgent. He kept me updated and was always on time. Sidney's was the middle of the three quotes and I thought his was the most reasonable. He took photos of every step to show his work and it looks good - no more leaks.
