Chimney and Guttering Repairs
Rob contacted me and came to fix some guttering initially. He then quoted £300 to reseal the chimney so we went ahead. He asked for £250 deposit for the scaffolding and the remaining £650 for the scaffolding on the day it was put up. Once he had been on the roof he pointed out some other issues. After saying the chimney was in great condition before we booked the job he suggested we should take it down at a cost of £5-6k which I said we could in no way afford. In total we agreed £1850 to reseal the chimney, replace 20-30 broken tiles, fix some more guttering and repoint one line of ridges and hips. After he had finished and payment had been made, some tiles slid down from the roof so I contacted Rob as he said his work came with a guarantee. Up until then communication had been good but he did not answer. When he finally did reply a couple of weeks later he said he was in Austrailia (I knew he wasn’t as his dial tone was a UK one). I waited and after pretty much giving up, I next contacted him for the details of the scaffolders as they had not returned. No answer. Next I received an invoice in the post from the scaffolding company and called them straight away. They said Rob had never paid them and wasn’t answering their calls either. We had another roofer inspect the roof after this and not only had Rob only repointed one side of the ridge tiles, he had not replaced any broken tiles and as it turns out had broken many of them himself by walking on the roof. There was also a rag left in our downpipe which is pretty strange. Unfortunately this person has completely abused everyones trust for financial gain. He did not complete the work he was paid for, did not pay the scaffolders and tried to leave me to sort out the bill. He has been reported to the police and to Trading Standards.
