    Plastering over artex

    I had hall and landing artex skimmed October/November had the ceilings painted the plaster came away leaving the artex. It's now been skimmed again thus time over blue grit. I've now have two horizontal hairline cracks one going down into the wall about 12 inches either side. I felt at the ceiling it doesn't feel loose in anyway. Is this normal shrinkage any advice would be appreciated.

It would make much more sense to be further along the same wall (2 metres over) so we can fit a corner sofa in the spot opposite the tv. We would want the old door patched up as well.
