  • Smoke escaping into bedroom

Hi, when I light my log burner, I end up with the bedroom above filling with smoke(The bedroom has an unused original fireplace in in it). The landlord says he’s had it checked and there’s nothing wrong with the chimney. I feel like I’m being fobbed off and could do with some advise as to what the problem could be so I can go back to him with it. Can anybody help? Thanks

    Underfloor Heating Manifold Fault

We have a GEC night storage boiler which a specialist has confirmed is working properly. The boiler heats the water that flows through the underfloor pipework. We believe there is a a problem with the underfloor heating manifold which means that the 5 wall thermostats have no control over the underfloor heating. Currently, we charge the boiler all night in order to get any heat the next day. The daytime heating is throughout the whole house even though we only need it in 1 room at any time. The night storage heating is used up sometime in the early evening. We need someone to diagnose the fault with the manifold.

    How to clean flint

Having our old cottage re-tendered, hacked it off already and there is a 18”- 2’ bit at the bottom which are flint stones. Love the look and would like to try to keep them exposed to show the character. however obviously a lot of cement on many of them and just wondered if there was something we could use to dissolve the residue or in some place, remove chunks of cement to clean them up ? Any suggestions please?!!!

    ESI Thermostat Replacement

I have recently moved into a new build and was looking at replacing the thermostats with smart ones to control the heating from my phone. I have 2 heating zones with a wall mounted ESI ESRTP6C thermostat in each zone. While looking at thermostats I noticed that ESI have a smart version of the same unit I already have, so I was wondering if it would be possible to swap the thermostats out? The only difference I've noticed is that it look like its made of 2 parts, the thermostat and a receiver unit. I had a look around my boiler and couldn't find a receiver unit for my current thermostats. The only thing I have is a white box which I think is just a power supply and controller for the zone pumps? I'm unsure if my thermostat setup is compatible with ESIs smart thermostats, or any thermostats for that matter? I wanted to make sure it was feasible before buying the thermostats. Also does anyone have any experience with ESI smart thermostats and are they worth it over the Hive thermostat?
