Window not opening

Hi, one of our upstairs windows is refusing to open… I was wondering if there is a common reason for this to happen and if it’s most likely a simple fix or something a bit more costly…? I realise it might be difficult to say without seeing it.
Many thanks.

"Hi, if the handle is working ok, and moving as it should then it will be the gearbox inside that has broken. It is a fairly easy fix, and depending on what sort of gear box it is. Job would be £50-80 depending on cost of parts. Just ring somebody local to you who advertises window repairs"

"Sounds like the mechanism has failed, could even just be the spindle on the handle has come out of the handle which would lead to it not working correctly, You could try taking the handle off and seeing if the spindle has come loose, however this should be done by a professional to reduce any further issues taking place."

"Could easily be as simple as what we call in the trade. TOE AND HEALING. But could also be a problem with the handle or mechanism."

"Most likely the locking mechanism it’s an easy fix and should only cost £70"

"If they are pvc windows. It's more than likely the gearbox has broken in the mechanism which locks and unlocks the window. In that instant its more than likely you'll have to de glaze the window to open it. You can just try unscrewing the handle if it moves enough to get to both fixings and putting a new handle on. But it's more than likely the mechanism which has broke"

"It's usually either the lock has seized shut, or part of the lock has broken off. It shouldn't cost more than £100 to fix but hard to say without signing the job in person"

"Hi,
There is no common problem as to why the window isn’t opening, it could be a few different reasons, im presuming the window is Upvc as that’s most common. It will cost in the region of £120-£200 the replace required parts and labour"

"Sounds like it's seized up either your hinges or lock on window"

"Good Afternoon,

Is the window wooden or uPVC? there are a number of reasons for a window not to open uPVC is likely the handle mechanism has failed. If its timber then its likely expanded/contracted due to temperature but its hard to say without more information and there are more reasons you could have an issue, Espags failed etc."
