What is the importance of the colour wheel

What is the importance of the colour wheel when it comes to planning out how I’d like a room to appear? Should the colours in the room complement each other or contrast or does it really depend on personal preference.

"To repeat the previous answer is entirely your choice. However, the best advice I can give is to take note of the lighting of the room you are painting.

Natural and artificial lighting both can make colours seem darker or lighter which may result in a different look than you had intended."

"The color wheel is an essential tool for interior designers and decorators when it comes to planning out how a room should look. The color wheel is a visual representation of the relationships between different colors, and it can help you understand how colors work together and how to create a harmonious color scheme.

When it comes to choosing colors for a room, there are a few key concepts to keep in mind:

Complementary colors: These are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, such as red and green or blue and orange. Complementary colors create a bold and striking contrast, and they can be used to create a high-impact color scheme.

Analogous colors: These are colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, such as blue, green, and yellow. Analogous colors create a harmonious and cohesive color scheme, and they are a great choice if you want to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere in a room.

Monochromatic colors: These are variations of a single color, such as light blue, dark blue, and navy. A monochromatic color scheme creates a sophisticated and elegant look, and it can be a great choice if you want to create a sense of calm and serenity in a room.

Ultimately, the choice of whether to use complementary, analogous, or monochromatic colors in a room depends on personal preference and the overall look and feel you want to create. However, it's important to keep in mind that some color combinations may clash or create a jarring effect, so it's important to use the color wheel as a guide to ensure that your color choices work well together"

"The color wheel is an arrangement of all colors on the spectrum based on their relationships, and it's useful in creating harmonious color schemes. Complementary colors enhance each other's intensity when placed right next to each other, which is why they're often used to create bold, high-contrast images that pop."

"Entirely personal preference in the end.
Whatever trends or ideals suggest,.smoking as you love it, that's all that matters.

Some rules I observe.. colours with green make a room look bigger (receding colours). Colours with red on make them smaller (advancing colours)."
