What is the best type of garage door paint?

Looking to paint my garage door to match my new mint green door. What is the best type of paint to use? How do I even go about painting a garage door? Any tips welcome.

"When painting a garage door, you'll want to choose a paint that is durable and can withstand exposure to the elements. Here are some tips for choosing the right type of paint:

Choose an exterior paint: Look for a paint that is specifically designed for use on exterior surfaces. This will help ensure that the paint can stand up to the elements, such as rain, sun, and wind.

Choose a paint with UV protection: If your garage door gets a lot of sun exposure, look for a paint that contains UV protection. This will help prevent the paint from fading or chalking over time.

Choose a paint with a satin or semi-gloss finish: These finishes are durable and easy to clean, making them a good choice for a garage door.

Consider using a paint and primer in one: This can help simplify the painting process and provide better coverage.

As for painting the garage door, here are some general tips:

Clean the surface: Before you begin painting, make sure the garage door is clean and free of dirt, dust, and debris. Use a mild detergent and water to clean the surface, and allow it to dry completely.

Sand the surface: Use sandpaper to lightly sand the surface of the garage door. This will help the paint adhere better to the surface.

Apply primer: If your paint does not include primer, apply a coat of primer to the surface of the garage door. This will help the paint adhere better and provide better coverage.

Apply paint: Once the primer is dry, apply a coat of paint to the garage door. Use a brush or roller to apply the paint, and make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying times and recoating.

Apply a second coat: Depending on the type of paint you're using, you may need to apply a second coat to the garage door for full coverage. Allow the first coat to dry completely before applying the second coat.

Allow the paint to dry: Once you've applied the final coat of paint, allow the garage door to dry completely before using it.

Remember to always follow the manufacturer's instructions for the specific type of paint you're using, and make sure to use proper safety gear, such as gloves and a mask, when painting. Good luck with your project!"

"Depending on the substrate of the garage door, if it is a metal door that hasnt been painted before, You’d need to use T wash, if you dont use that first the acid from the metal will Burn the paint and peel, then just use a metal primer undercoat and then Top coat, If they've been painted before just scrape peeling paint sand and paint, or if you want the door to look brand new it will take some work and would need a heat gun and scrape all the paint off back to bare metal,

If it is a plastic garage and all it needs is a coat of paint, then go for bedec multi surface paint."

"Hammerite have a range of metal paints specifically designed for garage doors. They have even called it 'garage door' paint.

A good oil based gloss paint is very suitable and more colours can be made available. I would always recommend a good primer to ensure your finish is of a high quality."
