What causes carpets to shrink? Usually liquid spillage or too much damp ,heat Doesnt have an too much effect unless carpet contains too much pvc

The biggest reason some carpets shrink is the material they are made from. Natural fibres have a tendency to get smaller when they absorb moisture. Fortunately, this is not much of a problem these days, as most carpets are now made of synthetic fibres.

The only thing i can think of is being laid with moisture in unless your talking long term. in that case anything that is held tight (carpet grips) will eventually loose its tension, get the knocker out and re trim would be my advise
