"Hello Simon,
Asphalt shingles are a type of roofing product used in predominantly America, they cover OSB wooden boards on homes and are rectangle pieces of either fibreglass or recycled paper-based substance mixed with asphalt then colour added. Hope this helps

"shingles are made of recycled paper and mixed with asphalt and mineral granules, they are laid the same way as slate."
