"Hi Adam,
Without inspection, its difficult to give a comprehensive answer, but here is some information that may be of use to you.

If these cracks are on a timber and plasterboard substrate, and the cracks are linear or at right angles it is likely that the scrim tape was omitted, or not enough screws fixed into the boards, or excessive movement in the floor joists or stud partitions, or a combination of these.

If the cracks are present on masonry walls and are linear or at right angles, or appear to be stepped (like a staircase), then the problem is likely movement within the wall(s) or foundations.

If the cracks mostly resemble crazing, this is likely caused by poor preparation of the surface, such as failing to adequately remove dirt/grime and/or controlling suction (and consequently- shrinkage) prior to applying the finish coat. If it is a skim over - failure to remove flaky paint or bits of wallpaper can give rise to similar issues.

The selection and/or quality or the building materials can present problems.

Hope this helps,
Kind regards"

"Was it over old morta walls? Substrate walls need to be rectified today before plastering old walls. If hollow or air line cracks can make plaster crack."
