"We recommend that you use what's known as a quality 'flexible' powdered, cement based adhesive such as fast setting Keraflex Maxi Grey. With large format tiles, it is important that there's a full bed of adhesive between the floor or wall and the tiles to ensure full contact.0[;.;/"

"Hello.

Tiling over painted surfaces is not a problem. There are a number of things that can be done to make sure the tile adhesive sticks to the surface. This could be in a form of a primer or PVA applied to the surface, or even have the surface properly scored so that the adhesive can stick to the surface. The idea is to make the surface ready for the adhesive to stick to it properly.

Tile on Tile primer can also be used on existing tile surfaces as well if tiling is required on top of existing tiles.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards.

"It’s ok, as long as you etch the surface, revealing some of the plaster, then use a tile primer, I use the mapei tile primer, then tile."

"Painted surfaces are generally unsuitable for tiling; a detailed examination of the painted surface should be made to decide whether it is suitable. Emulsion paint, lime-wash, distemper and similar finishes should be removed since they can possess poor adhesion to backing. Solvent based adhesives should not be used”."

"It’s not ideal but in some cases can’t be helped, walls would need to be scratched up and primer applied"

"Yes tiling over painted surfaces would be fine! It would really be dependant on the surface below the paint"

"Scribe with a Stanley knife area that needs to be tiled .Do it in both ways like you play “X and 0”. Use a prime grit primer over the surface and let it dry. Search for Mapei prime grip. Good luck"

"You can tile over painted surface but you must ensure that the paint is not loose or flaking, if it is I would use a scraper to remove the paint then paint the walls with some type of pva before tiling"
