Tiling over existing bathroom tiles

I am looking to tile over existing tiles in my bathroom. They are porcelain tiles, slightly uneven and a bit worn/cracked and have been there for about twenty years when the house was built and we moved in. Is it okay to tile over these tiles or could it create issues? Thank you!

"Hi, you are able to tile over tiles provided the old ones are securely fixed and relatively smooth, any small cracks should not be a problem providing the old tiles are firmly fixed to the wall."

"Hello, depends how solid is the wall, if the old tiles are cracked, you can’t tile on top, you have to take the old tiles, prepare the walls and fix the new tiles, I’m happy to come and have look to tell exactly what need to do."

"Hi, you can tile over cracked tiles but not loose tiles, ideally, it would be better to take of existing tiles and make good walls where necessary then retile walls."

"People do tile over tiles however it’s not the safest idea, I have seen in the past that tiles have fallen of walls."

"Hi, due to my experience, any old tiles would be perfect taking off and putting new ones on with fresh adhesive to avoid disappointment."

"Hello, I wouldn’t advise doing this, the main reason is, imagine all the extra weight you are putting on to the walls when you don’t know how well the original tiles are stuck to the wall, all you are doing is sticking more weight on to the original tiles."

"Hi, it would create issues, especially if they’re already cracked, etc. as walls have a maximum weight they can bear as well,

"How fixed are they to the wall? I always tile over tile. It’s perfect to do so although you do lose a few inches of your room size. As long as they aren’t falling off the wall I don’t think it would be an issue."

"I would recommend removing the tile so there is no problem."
