Thermal efficiency of conservatories

Question

I'm thinking of getting a conservatory but I'm worried that it will have a negative impact on our home's energy efficiency. Are some conservatories more thermally efficient than others? What should I look for?

Good morning Kamil. In answer to your question regarding the thermal efficiency of Conservatories, I would lean toward a Solid Roof System, with very low U Values. In addition, you can make the new room very energy efficient by installing triple-glazed units, instead of the conventional double-glazed units. The floor is an important part of the equation too, it needs to be insulated with effective insulation panels, to give enhanced heat retention. 
In the summertime, because of the thermal properties of the Solid Roof, it can have a cooling effect on the room, making it more comfortable and unlike Glass Roof Systems, which can make living in it uncomfortable and too warm.
