"When takaing clippings from a plant it is important to use heaalthy, disease free stems.Hydrangea quercifolia- tent to root easier compared to other types.
Rooting hormone can also be applied to improve the chances of successful rooting."

"Yes a cutting can be taken from a mature healthy hydrangeas, when leaves have not yet formed. Avoid older, woody stems.
A cut should be made 2 inches below a leaf nod on a green."

"You can take cuttings from any hydrangea but you will need to wait until the plant has started growing again in the spring. You can continue taking cuttings until late summer. Any cuttings taken in late summer will need to be kept indoors for the winter and not planted till after the last frost of the season."

"You can root hydrangeas from "hardwood" cuttings taken in late fall or early winter when the year's new stems have grown firm and mature. But hardwood cuttings are slow and challenging to root. Most professional hydrangea growers use "softwood" cuttings, which root quickly and yield far better results."

"Yes you can take cuttings from a hydrangea! I would suggest choosing a nice woody stem and scoring the bottom. Dip the end in some rooting powder, place on the edge of a pot with some loam based compost and place in a cold frame keeping most untill you start to see new growth"
