Swapping electric shower to mixer shower

Hi guys,

I just moved into a new place and the en-suite electric shower is damaged and not working. it will be safely disconnected from the fuse board to avoid any surprises.
I would like to install mixer shower to get more powerful shower experience compared to slow water flow from electric showers.

I have a basin with hot and cold supply 2 meters away from the water inlet for the electric shower.

Central heating is by combi boiler.

As the cold water supply is already available by the electric shower point, would it be ok to pick up the hot water supply from the basin hot water supply?

or what electric shower would you recommend so the hot water water flow could be as close to mixer shower as possible?

Thank you.

"Hi, There are some facts you need to consider
1. after removing the electric shower, you need to tile its place, safely isolate the cable from consumer unit and shower and cold water supply to it.
2. As your boiler is combi, you wouldn't have any problem with low pressure and you need to run hot and cold from the basin to the wall where you want the shower and hrmove the tile or cut a pice of the wall from the back to be able to run the pipe and install back plate to be able to screw the new shower to it.
3. It will save you money too as electricity price is about 4 times more expensive than gas and electric showers woun't last more than 5 years normally."

"Well if you want to get rid of the electric shower you can get the hot supply from the basin"

"Yes. Get the feed from the basin and that’ll sort your problem"

"Hi yes it's possible to pickup from the basin before the the flexible pipe and provide the mixer shower with cold supply for old existing shower , I would advise to put an isolation valve and non return valve after the isolation valve. And yes you can disconnect from the consumer unit but the earth and neutral would be still connected and could still trip if your planning to remove the shower switch . If unsure regarding electrical works please ask for assistance."

"Hi
Sure it will be fine to take the hot water supply from the basin providing you have a route to run the pipe work
Also you should check the pressure you have on the hot and cold water so you get a rough idea as to what kind of pressure you will get on the shower"

"Afternoon Jan

the answer to your question is yes, and the best way is to remove and row of tiles and install a new feed from the basin to the new mixer shower or if there is a feed above the shower drop the feed down this way and then retile the area

"Yea it is possible but without looking its hard to say, However from experience it would involve increasing the pipe size to insure a dect flow to the shower . A relatively straightforward job imo"

"Yes you can Tee off from hot water line of basin as Combi boiler runs on Hot water demand. The slight drawback would be when both hot taps are open together as there may be a drop in pressure in the shower head, however this is unlikely to happen as someone would either be using the basin or the shower, not both at the same time."

"In theory yes although until actually seeing the situation that is only an assumption based on your description."
