Starting a handyman business

I want to start my own handyman business and I'm looking for a bit of advice on how to price jobs. Should I work out an hourly rate and charge that regardless of the job. Or should I charge more for complex/skilled jobs? I have some experience and basic qualifications for things such as plumbing, so I don't want to sell myself short but I don't want to price myself out either.

"Its wise you do a reseach which will give you the result you are looking for '

Type into google' Average rates per hour for trades Or daily rate for trade'

APCHC : Or WRAS websites
Will give you valid information where plumbing and heating is concerned

And you might find profession rates on these websites'

Other websites which focuses on cost of trades and skills' will give you great insights' also' good luck"

"Firstly! Can you do the job? How many day's do you think you can do it in? Is the customer buying materials? How far do you need to travel? If you have a van/vehicle/Tools they all need to be paid for! If you had a regular job and was getting paid say £100 per day! Tax and NI paid! in order to pay yourself and TAX/NI your looking somewhere around £150-£220 per day! You also need to consider how busy you are, if you have a full diary then great/is it a weeks work! I myself base my pricing on £25 and hour especially if it's a multi skilled job. Hope this helps and good luck."

"I’d personally recommended hourly if the job is complex if not a flat rate even if only takes 10 mins still a flat rate"

"As a painter and decorator, I usually price by the job… however I am asked occasionally to do handyman jobs and usually price there by the hour, but be realistic…. You’d be looking between £25 -£50 per hour to earn a decent living…. Always try and view the job beforehand too, I once got called to decommission a walk in shower, then fit a mixer tap and a shower screen to a bath, I was there 4 hours in total….. what would a qualified plumber charge to do that….. pretty more than £25 per hour I’m sure!!! So if it’s a bigger job, price for the job and don’t undercut yourself."
