Skirting & Architrave

I want to paint my skirting the same as my ceiling and walls. I have been told I can prome the skirting then paint with matt paint. Then finish with a sealer. Is this OK to do

"Depending on the finish of the existing paint already on there you can but it’s not recommended. For example if it’s a more glossier finish then it would just scape off. Eggshell or satin maybe….again something I’d recommend for something long lasting."

"You can use Zinsser Allcoat, straight on to the skirtings whether they are gloss or not, doesn't matter.

It comes in satin finish which will be tough and durable for skirtings. I would advise against a standard Matt paint as it will mark very easily on skirtings, but you could use Dulux Trade Diamond Matt."

"Always prime and undercoat your new wood before the final finish, the more coats the merrier"

"Yes you can. If it is already glossed, sand it and undercoat it with wataerbased paint. Put your matt paint on and the seal it with a matt or satin varnish depending on the finish you want.

Or have some satinwood mixed to the same colour, sand and apply 2 coats.

If is new wood apply a waterbased primer first and then follow the above step.

I have used both of these methods as colour drenching is quite populat at the moment and they both work fine"

"Yes, although you'll need to ensure the skirting is sanded first, then a grip primer is used, but once that prep is done, you can indeed paint it with the same paint you'll use on the walls ,although this won't be as tough or hard-wearing as "normal" woodwork paints."

"Undercoat and a gloss is preferable but you can use some primer called zinzer and a coat of that then undercoat and then top coat of your choice"
