How much security camera storage space?

How much storage space (cloud and SD) do you actually need for a security camera? If you regularly delete old footage, will that reduce your requirements?

"Hi
It all depends on how many cameras you have in place and what kind of cameras they are.

In some systems footage will automatically delete at the end of the month so something like this and lets say 4 cameras at 4 mega pixels you should be okay with 4 terra bytes storage space .

And yes if your having to regularly delete footage as the system is prompting you do so, it’s because you have less storage space in your system."

"Cloud storage will depend on how many cameras you have, SD cards will generally offer only and day or two and that can depend on how good your camera is in terms of quality images.

If you have cloud storage be aware that if you lose internet to the camera then you will have no recordings at that time , unlike an nvr or dvr which will always record providing it has power"

"Using an SD card for your home camera is a bit like having a digital diary for your videos. When your camera records something, it saves the footage directly onto this small memory card, which you can then access whenever you want.

Unlike iCloud Secure Video, the SD card stores your videos locally, meaning they stay on the card unless you move them somewhere else. It's a handy option if you prefer to have physical control over your footage and don't want to rely on cloud storage.

However, keep in mind that SD cards can fill up, so you might need to replace them or transfer the footage to another device. Also, if anything happens to the SD card, like it gets damaged or lost, your videos could be gone for good.

In summary, while an SD card offers local storage and quick access to your videos, iCloud Secure Video provides a more secure and convenient way to store and access your home camera footage."

"Depends on quality of camera image that you are recording and amount of cameras.
Certain makes have a compression as well so you can record longer."

"For SD cards I would always recommend a minimum of 64GB for a 1080p Camara and 128GB for 2/4k cameras, in terms of cloud storage most companies do not charge for the amount stored and only a total monthly fee so no need to worry about how much is being captured."

"the storage required depends on many things, how long you want to store the footage, what camera resoloution you have, what frames per second is it recording at, my advice is to purchace the maximum size sd card your camera allows and set recording to motion detection ONLY! this will help to free up your storage and only record the things that matter"

"Depending on how many CCTV cameras, Resolution and Retention period will determine the amount of space required, I would like to say that storage these days is relatively inexpensive."
