"Mesh can be used in any Roughcast process however is usually only used when cracking has incurred or the render has completely failed and come away from the structure also when smooth rendering not roughcasting it has to almost always be used to help combat and hairline cracks however to anser your question fully mesh is not absolutely necessary when roughcasting however is always safer to use it"

"mesh is a good idea to apply in work. I've been using it for many years. if you apply mesh to walls or ceilings to plasters of all kinds, plaster multifinish. it makes a surface resistant to cracks and ruining the plaster."

"Fibre mesh, also known as fiber mesh, is indeed used in roughcasting, a type of exterior wall finish that involves applying a mixture of cement, sand, and gravel or pebbles to create a textured surface. The use of fibre mesh in roughcasting offers several advantages:

Enhanced Strength: Fibre mesh helps to reinforce the roughcast, improving its overall strength and durability. This is particularly beneficial in preventing cracking and other forms of damage that can occur over time due to environmental factors.
Crack Resistance: By distributing stress more evenly across the surface, fibre mesh minimizes the risk of cracking. This is crucial for maintaining the aesthetic and structural integrity of the roughcast finish.
Flexibility: Fibre mesh adds a degree of flexibility to the roughcast material, allowing it to better withstand movements and minor shifts in the building structure without compromising the finish.
Ease of Application: Incorporating fibre mesh into the roughcast mix can make the application process easier. The mesh helps to hold the mixture together, making it more manageable and consistent during application.
Improved Adhesion: Fibre mesh can enhance the adhesion of the roughcast to the underlying surface. This results in a more secure and long-lasting finish.
Resistance to Impact: The inclusion of fibre mesh increases the impact resistance of the roughcast, making it more resilient to physical damage from knocks and abrasions.
Weather Resistance: The reinforced structure provided by fibre mesh helps the roughcast to better resist harsh weather conditions, such as heavy rain, wind, and freeze-thaw cycles.
Overall, the use of fibre mesh in roughcasting provides a more durable, crack-resistant, and robust finish, contributing to the longevity and appearance of the exterior wall."

"Fibres to add to the mix can be done but isn't done often. If you have poor brickwork I would recommend stainless steel rib lath attached to the wall before scratch coat or rendgrip. Don't use galvinised as this will break down over time and cause rust spots. Make sure your fixings are a1 rated."
