Remove Internal Wall and Fit Kitchen

I am looking to having the wall (2.80m) between existing kitchen/dining room removed (requires a steel & a C/H radiator move) and a 6.72m2 'U' shaped, 15 units (incl 3 tower) kitchen (customer supplied) fitted. Should I contact Builders or Kitchen fitters or would I need to separate the two jobs?

"Hi Graham there are many established kitchen fitters like ourselves who offer the full works with regards to kitchen extensions and renovations. As we are the kitchen fitters we prefer to carry out our building work ourselves as we insure that all services are in the correct place. I would advise that you can use a builder do carry out your building work but would caution on allowing your builder to fit your kitchen."

"The 2 jobs are entirely different, you should get in different companies to carry out the work. Make sure builders have a good insurance cover and get at least 5 different quotes for the building work, research and vet your chosen company.

Kitchen work can be done by a carpenter and / or separate kitchen fitter.
Hope this helps"

"This all depends on the contractor you speak to. My joiners would happily do the work and then install the kitchen and we would bring in the other trades required. However to remove a wall you will likely require a structural engineer to assess what support may be required."

"Hi,

You can get kitchen fitters who have the correct people to remove walls. Just make sure it is reported to building control. Some builders say they can fit kitchens. Just be careful"

"An experienced builder and building control with structural engineer drawing proposed is likely the best way to undertake this job"

"It depends some builders fit kitchens too, like us we cover both areas so we do all Building works and then can fit the kitchen"

"The easiest thing would always be to enquire from your kitchen fitters as they may cover the entire scope of the work happily by inspecting and giving a professional feedback. Separation the two jobs is still ideal for peace of mind"

"You don't necessarily need to separate the jobs but you might need a builders report on installing the steel beam"

"A builder can remove the wall and radiator. But generally a good kitchen fitter can recommend a good builder. It’s networking easy. One job a whole thing."

"You will need a building warrant to remove wall and will require an engineer you will need a set of drawings a builder to then do the work then a kitchen fitter ."

"Hi
It all depends on the company you use my company covers all aspects of work to be done so all work is carried out in house, you will need to ask the companies you contact what works they are prepared to carry out.

"So we are a building company we do the whole lot and if there’s anything we don’t know we sub contract out to people we are confident can do the job. So if I was you go for a building company that complete all different kind of jobs"

"You will require a structural engineer for calculations for the steel beam, Most Builders would be able to take on both elements. It's also likely to keep costs down by instructing one company."

"A quality builder can provide the necessary service to complete the work, however it would be best practice to obtain a builders quote for the building works and in addition the kitchen work as separate jobs and negotiate a price for the two jobs if you preferred the builder. I would also suggest getting a kitchen fitters price for the kitchen alone."
