"Most general builders can do this sort of work
Or possibly a brick layer but it may be to small of a job unless he can plaster"

"You will require a Gas Safe registered person to ensure gas pipes in fire place is capped and tested,
Then a builder to brick up and plaster;

I can do all if required

"Hi Peter

This is probably a small job for builder or Bricklayer although if you have any gas pipes withinn the fire opening then you will also need to call on a Gas Safe Plumber to decommission this if it is still live.

After that and when bricked up it would need boarding and skimming.

The builder would do this also. And of course it would need decorating with possible skirting boards. Let me know if you need help but I am in the Wigan area with a 10 mile radius work zone.
All the best of luck with it.
Alan"

"A general builder can do the job best. If there are any gas pipes that need to be capped off then they need to gas safe certified."

"General Builder
Suitable for removing fireplaces and performing structural brickwork.
Can assess if a lintel is needed to support the chimney breast.
Can carry out plastering and making-good work after brick-up.

Bricklayer
Ideal for the actual infill of the fireplace opening with bricks and mortar.
May need a builder or labourer for demolition and disposal.

Plasterer (after brickwork)
Required to skim over the new brickwork and blend into surrounding walls.

Gas Safe Engineer (if the fireplace was connected to gas)
Must safely cap off or disconnect any gas supply before removal.

Chimney Sweep (optional)
Can confirm if the flue needs sealing or venting before the brickwork is done."

"To remove a fireplace and brick up the space, you’ll likely need the following tradespeople:

1. Bricklayer or General Builder – To remove the fireplace, brick up the opening, and ensure structural integrity.

2. Plasterer – To skim over the newly bricked-up area for a smooth finish.

3. Gas Safe Engineer (if applicable) – If the fireplace is gas-powered, it must be safely disconnected and capped off by a registered professional.

4. Chimney Specialist (if required) – If the chimney needs sealing or structural work, a specialist may be needed.

If the removal is part of a bigger renovation, a general builder can often coordinate all the necessary work."
