Question for a handyman (UK)

I have an electrician attending to fit some new plug sockets. In order to do this he will need to chase the cables on the wall. This will mean I then need the wall to be filled by a handyman.

Can you tell me:
Generally how long it takes to plaster or fill plaster board walls so I can get a rough idea?
Are there fast drying materials to get the job done quicker?
Will I be able to get the walls plastered/filled then hang things on them the same day?

"Generally you'd fill the chase or holes with bonding or hardwall, then you'd fill over that when dry ( usually same day for top coat of filler)"

"If you’d like a fast drying solution then it would need to be filler but this could crack over time. They’d need to be bonded and plastered which unfortunately you can’t do in a single day."

"No I would leave it for at least 12 hours for it all to fully dry"

"Hi you can buy quick set bonding(a little more expensive) this would be dry and ready to plaster in an hour or so. the plaster takes around 3 hours to set so you would be able to hang things on the same day."

"Hello , drying and filling times will depend on width and depth of the channels.
A standard filler is good for small holes , nail holes , dents and cracks etc . It’s always best to leave 24 hours after filling before drilling and painting , it does not usually take that long to fill but again it depends on size

A jointing compound will be fine if the channels are not to deep

Let me know if this helps at all

Thanks

"Hi there - it is sensible to leave the new plaster 24-48 hours to go off, I certainly wouldn’t advise drilling and hanging same day.

I hope that helps.

"Around a day works £160 depending on location as I’m in Blackpool"

"Its highly unlikely that you will be able to do everything the same day. More like Plastered and wait 3-4 days roughly for the plaster to dry before hanging stuff. Hope this helps"

"Hi
Generally no as the filler will sink in and will have then to be filled in again the next day.
Then you still have to redecorate the are which has its own problems as the colour might not match.
A good electrician will normally know how to fish the cabling through the wall if it's plasterboard."

"Hello, all great questions.

Firstly regarding timescales, it’s not inconceivable to imagine hanging things on the wall the same day - but it would certainly rely on starting early and each step of the wet processes following in quick succession (ie filler and paint). So realistically I’d suggest assuming next day or the day after to allow at least 2 coats of paint time to dry.

There are fillers including the well known Polyfilla that are dry enough to sand within an hour. Often a second application is necessary to fill small bubbles.

Proper plaster is a wise move for chasing though. Which takes longer to dry.

However if the walls are plasterboard stud walls your electrician may be able to route cables in the stud void behind the plasterboard.

Hope that helps,
