"It depends on what type of stone but I definitely advise to protect it with a sealer."

"If it is exterior yes it is advisable to use a weather proof coating. It stops water penetration plus helps to keep the veneer looking good. If interior it is advisable to paint on a dust proof coat, like a watered down PVA"

"I would recommend a sealer. Lifothin stainstop is my go to choice. Easily obtained online or at Leyland."

"No it does not.
In many cases I would advise not treating natural stone with any type of . The reason for this is that as well as preventing moisture entering the stone it can also prevent moisture coming out of the stone. older stone buildings need to breath.

However in certain cases and usually in more modern buildings water proffers and sealants can be used. It is worth bearing in mind that once you have used a type of sealer you will likely have to repeat the process again in the future and you may change the colour of the stone when the sealer is applied."
