Positioning an apple tree away from house

How far away from my house is sensible to plant an apple tree? How far do their roots usually grow?

"You can generally plant your tree anywhere but sometimes with fruit trees you notice roots surfacing over years. Tends to ne when they are quite old tho so wouldn't worry to much. I'd suggest planting your tree where it is going to get a decent amount of light. The roots usually grow as far the the outside of the canopy. Hope this helps"

"This depends heavily upon your site conditions. If your property is built on a soil with a high plasticity index i.e. Clay, tree related damage may occur through subsidence. This mainly affects properties built prior to the NHBC standards being introduced.
If you intend to keep the tree at a manageable size, pruned for fruit, i would suggest a minimum of 5m from the property. this will give the tree the space to reach reasonable genetic potential."

"Apple trees so not have an aggressive or invasive root structure so are okay to plant close to a house."

"Just in case the roots do grow...
The further the better to have consideration for your home!
A rule of thumb for is to have a separation distance at least equal to the mature height of the tree. For fruit trees grafted on dwarf rootstocks that means 4m and for fruit trees on vigorous rootstocks allow at least 7m.

"On general rule of thumb the canopy will be a b a meter ish larger than the fully grown tree so depending on your variety you can work it out from there also take into consideration the effect of shadowing on your existing garden and window veiw"
