Planning permission for a log cabin

Do I need planning permission to have a log cabin constructed? And if so, what is involved in the process? Does permitted development depend on factors such as the scale and type of log cabin? Thanks for your time.

"I've built quite a few, never had to have any permission depending how big and how far away from the house, and if done in timber no problem."

"Not as far as I know, but you can submit an online proposal to the local authority and ask"

"Most log cabins and garden rooms fall well within building regulations, so there's usually no planning permission needed. The only reasons planning may be required are if it's above 2.5m at the highest point, close to a house or border, or if it's in a protected area."

"There is a maximum size before building regs get involved"

"It depends on the size of the cabin if it's in the back of the garden like a shed you don't need permission but have to ring building regulations about what you are doing."

"Residential log cabins will need planning permission before construction. Unless you can find a piece of land with planning permission attached. Otherwise, you'll need to apply for a building permit. You'll then also need building regulations approval."

"Depending on size and height and if there will be drainage needed say a w/c you will have to have a building inspector IE dss district surveyor.
Best bet ring council to the information."
