"Hi possibly your hot water tank may be over pressured. This would mean that it will let out water from the overflow that would drain into the water tank. I could be wrong but with out looking it’s hard to tell"

"Sounds like the thermostat on the hot water tank is faulty on your system which is open vented hence water coming into your header tank."

"Have you got the thermostat set to high as the hot water goes up through the 22mm expansion pipe"

"The pipe that is going back into the storage tank is the hot water vent pipe. When the hot water expands inside the hot water cylinder it travels up the vent and discharged back into the tank. It shouldn't be running back into the tank that often. Best get someone out to have a proper look at it.👍"

"The only pipe than comes from hot water tank to cold water tank is vent pipe which means hot water tank is overfilling which means feed to hot water tank is not shutting off."
