Outside sensor coach down lantern

Hi everyone, we have had an outside down lantern at the front door since we moved in, it has been working fine all this time ,which has been approximately 5yrs. The lantern was left in the ON position at the switch and only comes on when it gets dark and off again when its light ( I believe it is called a dawn till dust lantern) then all of a sudden it only worked when the actual switch was in the OFF position and has been working like this for quite a few months. Well now its stopped all together, ive bought new bulbs ,changed them and left the light in the on position for a day to see if it came back on, then i left in the off position the one where it worked last ,but to no avail . I've also wiped the sensor on the top just in case it was dirty. I dont really want to buy a new one just yet as i think there maybe something happening with the actual light switch itself . Also as it’s an upside down lantern and they seem very hard to come by WITH a SENSOR , Thank you in adavance .

"I think the sensor it's faulty, the best option it's to replace the light with and LED one"

"You need to get the fault diagnosed first place. Is it the issue with the switch, wiring/ the light. Most of the time it is issue with the lantern as they age tend to have issues also they are subject to weather conditions which reduces the life of these type of lights. If its the issue with light you probably need to get it replaced."

"Hi

It's likely a fault with the sensor it's self
But from what you have said about the switch its possibly a fault there
But my moneys on the sensor being faulty and would need to be replaced"

"All depends sensor is built if so if manufacturers sell this separately if there is then yes to your question"

"Hi there,
I'd start with testing at the switch, you'd be able to confirm the light is actually getting a supply... this should help with identifying the 'ON' position for the light with the cable termination.
You may also have an alternate switch for this light somewhere else hence the light operating in the switches natural 'OFF' position.
From here you can move forward as a 'supply' issue or a 'light' issue...

Hope this helps..."

"I’d recommend fault finding on the circuit first to be sure"

"Hi
So this depends on a few things. The switch could be faulty but they tend to fail mechanically so wouldn’t switch or would be hard to switch. Are you sure this switch is for the light? It’s most likely the PIR (light sensor) has failed. You would need to test it to see if power is getting to the light.
Sometimes when the sensor fails the bulbs will have a small amount of voltage and will remain on but very dim. It would need testing (switch cable and light) to be sure of the issue."

"Hi, apparently there is a problem in the sensor circuit. There are two options: either cancel the sensor circuit, use it with a switch, or buy a new device.
Have a nice day"
