Outdoor Smell coming from drain

We have a square outdoor grid hopper with a kitchen sink draining into it. It smells in the summer and have had it inspected by a drain engineer with a camera. He has told us that there is nothing wrong with the drain however the smell venting back up is really bad. How can we solve this issue? Is it because it hasn't got a proper trap to stop the smell?

"Hi Oliver,

if your kitchen waste gully does not have a trap it cant hold any water to stop any smells from the sewer system.

sounds like you have a degree bend with a hopper sat on the top

thanks"

"You will need to put a trap on the grid hopper. Ideal you would replace the grid hopper with an access gully which have built in traps. This will then be easier to maintain."

"It has to be the trap, a new gully should sort this, it works the same way as your toilet, the water should stop the smell"

"Hi

Yes, if there is no trap then this won’t help at all with the smells.

Kind regards

"Hi Olivier
It could be the trap for the sink causing the issue of the smell, have you checked the trap is clear? As the water seal within the trap is designed to stop this smell occurring"
