New Lintel Required

I have noticed a line of bricks above the 2nd floor window are about 1cm from the layer directly above, s this requiring a lintel? Is this a big job, how long does it take. Should a bricklayer have special skills to do the work and guarantees and finally would it be best to have both windows on the same level have new lintels added. Do the windows have to be removed if so is a bricklayer or window fitter best for the job. Halesowen Area, West Midlands

"Hi , it sounds to me that the brickwork is dropping because there is no lintel supporting it.
It is a relatively small job to chop out the course that is saggy and and support it with what is called an L/A lintel. They are relatively inexpensive so it’s not going to cost you an awful lot of money.
I would add it needs to be installed by a professional bricklayer and not just a handyperson."

"If lintels need fitting the brickwork above is pinned to allow removal of all brick above the window and minimum 150mm either side as a bearing for the lintel to sit on. The brickwork is then replaced back up to the pinned area and packed with slate to ensure no compression of joint. Windows do not need removing. Job will take only 1-2 day with access for both lintels with bricklayer and labourer."

"You could always helix bar it, this can be done without anything changing and is quick"

"If the window is there, there is already a lintel, not every lintel supposed to be seen same like the adge of the brick."
