New Electric Oven

Hi all,

My old oven packed up over Christmas so I ordered a new one. The old oven was simply plugged into a socket on the wall.
The new oven is 4030W and the existing hob 4050W, the existing hob is wired into the mains, both oven and existing hob are on the same CU circuit.

I have been quoted £350 for a new cable 10mm cable into the CU (around 5m from the oven), installation of new switch and connecting the oven up.

Does this sound about accurate?

Thanks in advance!

"Yes separate circuits are required for both splliances"

"Yes, cables should be separate and price is correct."

"for 4 k watt oven and 4 k watt hob is better to keep them separate circuit ,instead of using 10mm cable is good to use 6mm for that short run with 32Amp brakes on"

"10mm cable is incredibly excessive for that length of circuit supplying only 4kw. Total load would be between 17-18A. You could use 4mm cable protected by a 20A breaker for that comfortably, and fit a 20A double-pole isolator. £350 also sounds a bit steep…"

"You could get away with just a 6mm cable ( to help keep the cost down) , calculating diversity factors into this, you’re never going to exceed 32amps. Unless your running all 4 rings of the hob on max and your oven on 300 max all at once."

"Sounds a bit on the high side but really depends on how awkward it is if it’s an easy install I would say £250 to £300
Also some consumer units that are a bit older the circuit breakers can be expensive"

"To sum up the comments so far, the cable Is correct if your going to be using all the rings on the hob and oven consecutively but even then as mentioned 6mm would be more than adequate for that. Price wise I think is bang on."

"An oven is a dedicated circuit, and at that load, even previously, the hob and oven should be on their own circuits.
The total load you state is 8.1kW (4030&4050)
If you want to run both on a 10mm cable that would be better than the assumed existing cable. The cost sounds about right, but I would also want to know what your existing circuit protection is."

"That sounds reasonable you have to take into account his fuel materials running costs too be self employed travel time to and from the job"

"Yes try to separate the fuses it’s much bitter to have them separated and not to be over loaded"
