Move a hot water tank to the loft.

We have a how water tank in a airing cupboard outside the bathroom, but we also have a loft just above the bathroom, I’m wondering if it’s possible to move this hot water tank to the loft so I can make use of the cupboard space.

"It is possible but is the cylinder pressurized ? Or is it low pressure being supplied by a cold water tank in the attic ? If it’s the second option it won’t work as the will be little or no head of pressure to make it work .If it’s the first option it will work but take into consideration the loft opening will the cylinder pass through the attic trap?"

"Good Evening
This can not be done as a copper cylinder tank in a airing cupboard has 2 header tanks in the loft. 1 is for your hot water and the other for central heating. The 2 tanks in the loft build pressure of 1 metre above 1 bar pressure so ideally these tanks need to be 1.5 metres above the cylinder which gives you 1.5 bar pressure for your hot water.

"Yeah you just need extra pipework to extend it to the loft it's easily done"

"Yes you can move it anywhere you wish you just need to run all the pipe work to the hot water cylinder the higher it is the better you get more pressure"

"Yes, it is generally possible to move your hot water tank to the loft, but there are a few factors to consider:

"If your hot water tank is gravity feed then it won’t work
You will need to have a unvented system"

"You will need a mains fed unvented hot water cylinder in the loft, possibly a horizontal one if space is restricted.
The installer must be G3 qualified."
