How can I keep moss off my roof?

There's a lot of trees near my house (not on my property) and I think it's because of this I get lots of moss on my tiles. I've had it removed once but obviously it's become mossy again. Is there anything I can do to keep the moss off? My tiles are Welsh slate.

"The best way to keep moss from re appearing on your roof would be to have some one install some copper to the roof. As when it rains the copper will oxidise and kill any moss or stop moss growth"

"All you can do is gently scrape off the moss and apply a biocide chemical , that should get rid of it and then when dry apply a coat of Thompson water seal this should be sufficient in keeping moss from sticking to the slates."

"Hello!
If you're experiencing moss growth on your Welsh slate tiles due to the presence of nearby trees, there are a few steps you can take to minimize or prevent the growth of moss:

Increase sunlight exposure: Moss tends to thrive in shaded and damp areas. Prune back any tree branches or vegetation that may be blocking sunlight from reaching your roof tiles. Increasing sunlight exposure can help dry out the surface and inhibit moss growth.

Improve drainage: Ensure that your roof has proper drainage to prevent water from pooling or accumulating on the tiles. Check if there are any clogged gutters or downspouts that may be causing water to overflow onto the slate tiles.

Trim tree branches: If the trees near your house are overhanging your roof, consider trimming the branches to reduce the amount of shade and debris falling onto the tiles. Trimming the branches will also help improve airflow and reduce moisture retention.

Clean the tiles regularly: Regular cleaning and maintenance can help prevent moss from establishing a strong foothold. Use a soft-bristle brush or a broom to sweep away any debris, leaves, or moss that may have accumulated on the tiles. Be cautious not to use a pressure washer or abrasive cleaning materials, as they can damage the slate surface.

Apply a moss-killing treatment: You may consider using a moss-killing treatment specifically designed for roofs. These treatments often come in spray or liquid form and can be applied to the affected areas. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully when applying such products.

Consider professional help: If the moss growth persists or becomes difficult to manage, it may be beneficial to consult with a professional roof cleaning or moss removal service. They will have the expertise and tools to effectively remove the moss and provide recommendations for long-term prevention.

Remember, moss growth on roofs is a common issue and may require periodic maintenance. By taking these preventive measures, you can reduce the likelihood of moss regrowth and keep your Welsh slate tiles in better All the best. Arkadiusz"

"You would just have to get some labour in to scrap the moss off whenever it gathered am pretty sure if you look online you could find something to be sprayed on the roof to prevent the moss from happening whilst making sure it dosent affect the slates ."
