Loft insulation

I have a bedroom which is part of an extension with 3 outer walls. The room
Is freezing and I have cut a hole in the ceiling to see if there is loft insulation up there. There is 150mm, however they have placed it over the joists not in between them, meaning there is a gap between the ceiling plasterboard and insulation. Would this be the cause of the room being so cold? Will cold air from the eaves circulate in this space and cause the cold?

"This would affect the warmth in your room but have you checked the walls are properly insulated aswell ? The current loft insulation will need to be refitted correctly for replaced for thicker insulation"

"Certainly. The room is cold because the insulation is laid over the joists, leaving a gap. This allows cold air to circulate between the plasterboard and insulation. Fixing this insulation placement should help make the room warmer."

"The space between the insulation over the joists and the ceiling board below is allowing cold air to circulate. Remove the current insulation (And if if old or damp),
replace with 150ml kingspan insulation block between all joists. You will soon
notice the difference."

"the insulation should be laid flat to the loft floor not laid over the joists as any gaps underneath the insulation will have cause cold air to sit underneath it"

"Yes it needs to be between the joists , then additional should be laid opposite way on , current regs are 270mm ."

"If this was the case you would have condensation forming with mould growth and the best solution would be to install insulation correct up to at least 400mm thick and running both ways.
Have you considered you might have some kind of roof damage also."

"Yes it would be part to play in why the room is colder than others the insulation should be put in-between the bays to keep in as must heat as possible"
