Lime Render vs Silicone Render

I live in a 3 bed semi with solid walls. We had an independent damp survey which revealed the walls are extremely damp. His recommendation is to hack off existing render and replace with lime render. A rendering company has recommended a silicone render on top of the existing render or external insulation with silicone render. I don't want to get this wrong so I would welcome any opinions/comments. Many thanks.

"Lime render allows. Your walls to let "vapour " through and not trapping.it thus alleviating most.or any damp issues, I'm assuming the current render is sand and cement which is the wrong type for solid brick walls, as for rendering over the top of original 🙄, so my opinion is go with the Lime render, but make sure they have quite a lot of experience with Lime rendering as it's kind of a specialist field"

"If the building is damp on the inside exterior rendering is not going g to solve the problem, I don't think lime rendering is damp roof and silicone will stop the rain

"To help with the damp issue you will need an insulation then silicone render .a render alone does not solve damp problems"

"I would recommend to remove the existing render and do instead silicone Render on top without any lime silicone render will insulate if there is not Insulation in the house is hot outside cold that's why you have mould"

"Solid stone walls need to breath lime is the way. Silicone would seal the wall causing more damp and dry rot. Hope this helps"

"Hi I would recommend taking off external render and using 3to 1 mix of sand and lime to allow walls 2 breath being they are solid walls"

"Good morning.

If the property has damp issues then lime done correctly would allow the property to breathe and solve the damp.
Insulting and silicone render will not allow the walls to breathe and can trap in the damp.

Damp comes with the mind field of different opinions from plasterers on how to tackle it.
Plasterers will try to push you to do more modern rendering systems with insulation as the technique is easy and they can make more money from doing it by over charging.

I would need to see it for myself to give the best advice but Lime will solve the damp if done correctly. You might need to do the internal wall in lime too.

"I am a render specialist
this all depends on the type damp issue!
Render will only stop penetrating damp not rising new render beats any sand and cement renders silicone is by far the best system ewi will only keep the house warm it's the render that creates a barrier but is not necessary on double skim wall hope this helps

"Do not render on top of existing render. lime render is the best to bring back the breathability of the house back to the way it's ment to be."
