Johnstone’s Garden Colours on Decking

Question

Hi,

I have used Johnstone’s Garden Colours paint on my decking without realising that it was not suitable until after completing the first coat. Will I be able to paint over this with a proper decking paint it will the new product fail over time because the Johnstone’s product is underneath?

Any help would be much appreciated.

The new product will not go into the timber decking if their is a protective coat already applied. There is a few different options to get round this but without seeing the decking it’s very hard to suggest anything.

Hard to suggest with out a picture but go to b&q make sure it’s a good quality paint plenty of cheap on the market but will not do a great job

It’s really hard to say but what other choices have you got other than ripping up the decking and laying new ! 

I would paint it with decking paint and hopefully you get a few more years out of the decking before it’s needs replacing
