Can you tell me a bit more about Scotchgard Protection? Would you advise I try it or are there other products you’d recommend instead? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, also is it a special product for professionals or is it fine for DIY use? Thanks! :)

The main reason one is used is to repel stains on carpets/upholstery. 
Hence it should be applied after the throughout clean is carried out or when these are just fitted/bought. 
We normally only use it for natural, expensive carpets and rugs, rarely on synthetics 
DIY at your own risk. There are many products available, but all should be applied by professionals.
