Insulation of a loft conversion

With a loft conversion can I fix external wall insulation to the dormer of a loft conversion instead of hanging tiles? I’ll then render the polystyrene sheets to match the existing look of the house. Does this go against building regulations?

"Hi you need to get fire proof insulation for that job. But if you remove the tiles you should be able to install insulation within side the dormer then using exmet sheeting you can render the external walls. I hope this answers your question.cheers Paul."

"fixing external wall insulation (EWI) to the dormer of a loft conversion, and then rendering it to match the existing house, is not necessarily against building regulations as long as the insulation meets the required U-value standards for new walls, but you should always consult your local building control department to confirm compliance and ensure the installation is done correctly."

"No it wouldn't go against regulations but I wouldn't recommend this as a long term fix."

"Yes, you can use external wall insulation with rendered polystyrene sheets on a dormer instead of tiles, provided it meets building regulations. The insulation must comply with thermal performance standards, fire safety requirements, and weatherproofing guidelines. Consult building control"

"Yes, you can fix external wall insulation (EWI) to the dormer of a loft conversion and render it to match your house, but there are a few key things to consider to ensure it complies with building regulations:

Thermal Performance: Building regulations require the dormer walls to meet a U-value of 0.28 W/m²K, meaning the insulation must be effective enough to meet this standard. EWI is often a good way to achieve this, but you'll need to confirm that the specific system you're using does.

Fire Safety: The insulation material and render system must comply with fire safety standards. For example, some types of polystyrene insulation may need additional protection to prevent fire spread.

Planning Permission: If your house is in a conservation area, or if the external render significantly changes the appearance of the property, you may need planning permission. Check with your local planning authority to be sure."

"Yes, you can insulate externaly and render! I have done two projects with external insulation and silicone render and they have passed building control."

"You would need to ask Building regs if this is acceptable.
