Do you think its worth my while to have my driveway gate measured by myself a novice or by someone who has the experience with installing gates

If your original gate is still on the post you can Measure  it or them yourself as all you are doing is ordering a like for like gate,
Or get a professional in to Measure it.
 If  you’re looking at purchasing a bespoke gate it will be very costly if you’ve order the wrong size.

If you're getting a quote, then a rough measurement by the customer is suffice but its better for the installer to take the final measurement.

If your unsure it’s always best to get a professional or someone competent and knowledgeable enough to be measuring the gate correctly to save the chance of any issues occurring when it comes to the installation.

Most if not all tradesmen though if carrying out the job would want to take the measurements themselves to ensure everything is correct and eradicate the chances of anything being wrong.

It all depends on the final result you are looking to achieve. Many online suppliers can make a gate to your measurements and will have guidance on how to measure the faye correctly, as well as having some level of adjustment in the hinges (hinge style dependant)

Ultimately its always a safer option to have a professional measure up to avoid any unexpected complications
