How can I tell where a mouse is getting in?

I've found a few black droppings in our kitchen that I suspect are from a mouse. I'm not sure where it's getting in, so I'm wondering if there's a way to tell other than staying up and trying to catch the mouse at it.

"Hi in answer to this question mice droppings normally look like black or dark brown grains of rice, when first laid they will be moist and you will be able to push them, this indicates a new infestation. Check under your kick boards for further droppings, if you have an issue I would recommend contacting a professional pest control service such as ours, we will always get rid of a rodent issue but the key thing is to have the correct advice to insure they do not return."

"Mice are known to access gaps as little as 5mm, but in most cases l would recommend a professional to carry out a survey."

"Best leave that to a professional pest controller unless you want to spend hours on end looking for holes no bigger than a 5p piece"
