How to create a Mediterranean style patio garden

I want to give my patio garden a Mediterranean feel. What plants and materials can you recommend?

"Outdoor and shaded arrangement
Much of the Mediterranean style focuses on outdoor areas. When you think of a Mediterranean house, an open veranda with a view of the steep mountain slopes and the sea comes to mind. Pergolas and airy linen curtains are suitable choices to capture the general feeling of a Mediterranean terrace.

The classic Mediterranean terrace will incorporate wide spaces with many ceramic pots. Try to add some Mediterranean plants, but do not crowd the terrace. Citrus, roses, rosemary and lavender are popular Mediterranean choices. Many of these plants can be grown in pots, so it will be easy to integrate them into the decoration of the terrace.

It is recommended to limit yourself to those plants that are easy to maintain and that can cope with the weather conditions in your region.

Natural materials
The walls are usually painted white, and white can be the main color for furniture and accessories. Choosing the right plants and flowers for the terrace is essential.

The Mediterranean style is not modern, but rather simple, colorful and slightly rustic. Therefore, it is a good idea to use materials such as wood, stone and terracotta. You can also use ceramic tiles to add color.

The natural stone floors and the wooden garden furniture give a Mediterranean touch to the terrace. Wicker and rattan pieces are exactly what you need to create the Mediterranean decor."

"A statement Olive or Cypress tree in a terracotta pot always looks fantastic for a Mediterranean theme. Lots of lavenders in small patches with cost effective Oregano and Dwarf Hebe's in different colours looks very effective and smells amazing. If you give enough space around the plants you can top off with a terracotta stone or sand to make it feel really Mediterranean and warm.

I hope this helps!

"A few classic choices include lavender, sage, olive trees, agave, grapevines, fig trees, citrus trees, and even vegetable plants such as tomatoes (albeit these aren't drought-tolerant), but don't be afraid to mix things up depending on your climate and personal preferences."
