How often to clean microwave

How often should you clean the inside of the microwave? And any safety steps to consider (aside from plugging it out first)?

"Ideally wipe after each use just to catch any spills before they stain or dry. I would recommend unplugging and cleaning weekly to ensure it reminds hygienic and reduce staining. Deep clean monthly"

"It’s a good practice to clean the inside of your microwave regularly to prevent food buildup and potential bacterial growth. Ideally, you should clean the inside of the microwave after each use or at least once a week, depending on how often it’s used and how messy the food splatters are.

Here are some safety steps to consider when cleaning the inside of your microwave:

1. Unplug the microwave: Always unplug the microwave before cleaning to avoid the risk of electric shock.
2. Remove the turntable and any removable parts: Take out the turntable and any other removable parts, such as the microwave rack, if applicable. Wash these parts separately in warm, soapy water, and dry them thoroughly before placing them back in the microwave.
3. Use a mild cleaning solution: Mix a solution of equal parts water and white vinegar or mild dish soap. Alternatively, you can use commercially available microwave cleaning solutions. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the interior of the microwave.
4. Wipe down the interior: Dip a clean sponge or microfiber cloth into the cleaning solution and use it to wipe down the interior surfaces of the microwave, including the walls, ceiling, and door. Pay special attention to areas with food splatters or stains.
5. Clean the door and seals: Wipe down the microwave door, handle, and seals with a damp cloth. Be gentle when cleaning around the door seals to avoid damaging them.
6. Rinse and dry: Once you’ve cleaned the interior of the microwave, rinse it with clean water and dry it thoroughly with a clean cloth.
7. Air out the microwave: Leave the microwave door open for a few minutes to allow any remaining moisture to evaporate before plugging it back in."

"Yes just unplug it before wiping. Best method put a bowl of water in for a couple of minutes, unplug and then wipe round with a dry cloth. Then use whatever spray you would usually use but apply to the cloth don't spray round the microwave. Allow time to dry just in case and plug back in"

"It is preferable to clean it after each use. When you reheat the food afterwards, it is good to leave the door open so that the steam that forms on the glass cools down and disappears."
