How often should I fertilize plants? Does it depend on the plant?

"Soluble fertilizers, for instance, are applied every two weeks during the growing season. Granular fertilizers are generally applied about every six to eight weeks. Slow-release fertilizers work for months, so one application is generally all that is needed for a growing season"

"Yes it very much depends on what plants you are growing
Trees shrubs and perennials one good feed per year plus mulching
Roses spring and summer
Bedding plant each time you water
Vegetables prior to planting
This is a good general idea"

"Plants need feeding if they:

Are showing signs of nutrient deficiency.

Are producing lower than expected yields of flowers or fruit, or are putting on less growth than expected.

Feeding is usually done in spring or summer, during the growing season. Few plants need fertiliser in the winter months, even if they are winter-flowering. Some organic fertilisers, such as fish blood and bone or poultry manure pellets, are slow to release their nutrients and are applied in late winter or early spring in preparation for the growing season."

"Hi Lou,

Yes, it depends on the individual plant and group what fertiliser or compost you use (NPK ratio and acidity/ alkalinity), but the general time this is done is spring and/or autumn.

Feel free to get in touch for a quote for identification and recommendations.

Kind Regards,
Shea

"Yes it depends on plants normally once a month but depends on what product you buy read instructions, try and go with an organic fertiliser for better results"

"Most potted plants require regular re-potting to keep them healthy.

Shrubs thrive with a top-dressing in Spring, i.e, a handful of Blood Fish And Bone fertilizer around the base. Roses are particularly hungry.
