How durable is Corten steel?

Is Corten steel durable when it's used outdoors and likely to come into contact with moist ground?

"Ask the Angel of the North in Gateshead. It is made out of it.

More seriously - your project will outlive you if you separate the steel from the moist ground."

"Hi Mo, weathering steel isn't something I've worked with on gates to be honest but I've seen it many times on sites used for cladding, planters and sculptures. My understanding is that its durable and designed to have the unpainted finish and weather with age. With regards to durability when in contact with moist ground I'm not 100% sure sorry. It can deal with rain water etc but it's not marine grade steel so I assume if its submerged in water it will shorten its lifespan.

Sorry I can be more help it's just not a material I've have a lot of first hand experience with.

Alan"
