How do I hire a historical building contractor?

Hi there, can I ask, how would I go about hiring a historical building contractor? Do they charge more than regular building contractors and are there any unique requirements/considerations to take into account when hiring such a professional?

"Hi

It really depends on the works you are looking to have undertaken, for example, if you have old stone-built walls you can’t hire a standard bricklayer as the results would be disastrous
We have worked on buildings built in the 1500s all the way through to new builds and always find different challenges regardless.
No 2 where is ever quite built the same way so you can never really guarantee what you will come across
Really your best option is to meet a few contractors discuss your requirements and see who is able to offer what you want, and o work within your budget
Costs are always slightly higher on older properties due to materials and time spent on the works so bear this in mind if it sounds too cheap it probably is"

"Hello Monika,
A historical or traditional builder will normally advertise as such on their website or trade listing. We at Pink Rhino Construction advertise as traditional builders and we undertake all traditional building works including dry/wet stonewalling, stone roofing, listed building works, architectural renovation, damp issues (removing cement or gypsum-based products) lime render/plastering. Yes, we do charge more than conventional builders as our expertise is more advanced than most builders. Always look at the previously completed projects of traditional builders and speak to their references they provide which will give a lot of information about the type of work they do and what they are capable of doing. We’ve recently finished projects with Swinton Estate which owns many listed buildings.

Hope this helps.
Many thanks
Jeremy
