How can I fix a squeaky door?

Question

My kitchen door has been pretty squeaky for, I’d say, the last year or two. Any ideas, what might be causing this and how can I fix it? Will I need to replace the hinges entirely or is there a way to fix it without restoring to that? I assume it’s the hinges anyway, is there any other potential cause of a squeaky door or just the hinges?

if it creaks from the hinges you have to put a little Vaseline thank you

Hi Nan,
It is unlikely you will need to change the hinges. Try spraying a generous amount of WD40 on each hinge, then open and close the door consistently for a few minutes allowing the oil to sink into the hinges. The squeaking should stop.

Hi a bit of wd40 or anything with silicone in like Mr Sheen or similar. The only moving parts are the hinges, handle and latch. So most likely the hinges

It's usually the hinges, oil will reduce the noise for a while. New hinges will eliminate the noise

W d fourty on it or replace the hinge. possible if u have no wd fourty put tiny little oil on it with the squeaky area

Wd40 is the way to go. In most cases, it is the hinges that need some love and attention- ie. A good lube

Squeaky doors normally occur from too much paint being applied or poor quality hinges or poorly fitted doors many factors can be a reason not one specifically
