House clearance after bereavement

We need to clear a house after a bereavement. We can't face it ourselves but we're worried about getting ripped off. Do people usually use a house clearance company, auctioneer or someone else for this type of situation?

"I would advise that you remove all valuable and sentimental items from the property, you can then contact a charity like st Luke’s to see if they would like any of the furniture, clothes could be donated to a charity shop what is not required could then my disposed of environmentally friendly however this is not cheap at the moment a tonne weight is around £288 a lorry with 2 men would cost around £400 we usually only do corporate moves but I hope this helps and I am very sorry for your loss"

"You can otherwise use a private company or a removal its up to you.

If you go with a private company its down to yourself to choose the right person you would trust with the belongings

With a removal company, i would check on reviews on the company

"If you want to actually make money from selling things from the house clearance, I suggest you simply sell it yourself... on eBay or Vinted or other websites.

If anything is expensive or of value, such as an antique or jewellery, use a specialist business, but take it yourself or contact individual specialists in that item for a valuation... via photo first and ask them to visit the property and discuss its value with you and make a purchase.

You can probably get an estimate after they see a photo before you use your own or their time.

Things that have value, you take photos and post ads on eBay.

Anything else that just needs to be rid of, you can do a 'House clearance'

Advertise it yourself on eBay or post it on free notice boards...

In your area website has one... Simply click on the areas you want to cover when you go on the website and make your account with your Google account...
Then, you can use the website to post on 'noticeboard'...
It's completely free.

When you do your House Clearance...
YOU can sell individual items for a price you set, label things or allow negotiable prices...

You are on charge...
So no one will 'rip you off'

"I'm sorry for your loss. Clearing a house after a bereavement is indeed a challenging task, and it's understandable to want to find trustworthy and fair help. People typically use one of the following options:
House Clearance Companies: These companies specialize in clearing out entire houses. They can handle everything from sorting and packing to disposing of unwanted items. It's crucial to find a reputable company. Look for reviews, ask for references, and get multiple quotes to compare prices. Ensure they are licensed and insured.
Auctioneers: If the house contains valuable items such as antiques, collectibles, or artwork, an auctioneer might be a good option. They can appraise the items and sell them at auction, often getting better prices than you might through other channels. Some auctioneers also offer house clearance services."
