Hooking a garage up to a home security system

Can you hook a garage up to a home security system if it's located away from your house, i.e. a few hundred metres down the lane? If it's possible, what type of system do we need?

"The cheapest option is just to buy a stand alone system for the garage. If you simply want to make some noise to move people on.

If you want to add to an existing wireless system, then you’ll need to run some ducting and a cat5 cable to the garage, and then add a wireless access point for the wireless sensors to link up to.

If it’s a hard wired system, then you would still need to run a duct, and then LV cable from the pannel to each sensor/sounder

With more details, I can provide a better answer."

"Yes it all depends on the current system you have installed. If you have a modern Ajax wireless system (this is the system we install now a days) it is so easy and straight forward. If it's a hardwired you need to get the cable to you garage."

"Any Hard wired security system would be preferable. Run the wiring in conduit to make it safe"

"Good afternoon Duncan,

It can be possible with the use of wireless transmitters from the alarm system which can be used to hard wire a volt free relay on contact from the garage. Either to monitor a contact or a way of setting/unsetting the gaarge"

"Possibly find a system working off solar. But it would not be reliable"

"Yes, you can integrate a garage door opener with a smart home security system to control it remotely. Many smart home security systems offer compatibility with garage door controllers, allowing you to monitor and operate your garage door from your smartphone or other smart devices. This integration enhances your home's security by providing you with real-time alerts and control over your garage door, adding an extra layer of protection to your property."

"hi the short answer to your question is yes you can, however there will be a couple of important factors to take into consideration, is the out building in a clear line of sight from the main property? also what is the out building made of?, i would recomend maybe a pyronix wireless alarm or an ajax as they give a good detector range but also offer an external repeater( if needed) to boost the signal and extend the range"
